BAND CAMP

Everything You Need to Know

SUNSCREEN AND WATER…SUNSCREEN AND WATER…SUNSCREEN AND WATER!!

Band Camp: Needs

Band Camp is almost here! We will be outside for the majority of the week, which can get pretty hot in August if you are not adequately prepared. Make sure to drink plenty of water now, so that you can stay hydrated next week. Drinking plenty of water and eating well in the 12-16 hours leading up to band camp will go a long way towards making sure that you have a great experience.

To ensure a successful week, please make sure to bring the following things with you to camp:

  1. A large water bottle (½ gallon or bigger) with your name on it

  2. Lots of sunscreen - band camp will be MISERABLE if you get a bad sunburn!

  3. Athletic shoes

  4. Hat and sunglasses

  5. Food for dinner. The dinner break is from 4:00-5:00 each day. You will be able to leave campus if you choose, but many find it is easier to bring dinner with them so that you aren’t rushed getting back for the evening rehearsal block.

  6. All regular rehearsal equipment (instrument, binder, charged phone with the UDB app - more on that next week)

  7. Once we start learning drill, all wind and battery students will need a white shirt

Band Camp: Dress Up Days

Each year, the drum majors organize dress up days during camp. It’s a great way to have some fun while we get to see everyone’s creative and quirky side! When band camp starts on the 4th, students should wear their regular band camp clothes to rehearsal, and plan to change into their dress-up day outfits at the evening break (approx. 7:00 each evening). Each of these five nights will end with a parade of costumes where awards will be given. Please make sure that your outfit doesn’t interfere with your ability to rehearse!

  • Monday, August 4: Dino Day

  • Tuesday, August 5: Desert Island Day

  • Thursday, August 6: Minecraft Day

  • Monday, August 7: Staff Day (dress up as a tech, leader, or director)

  • Tuesday, August 8: Section Day

Uniform Fittings Next Monday

Before our band can perform, we need to get everyone fitted for a uniform. Everyone in the band will be fitted for their uniform on Monday, August 4 during camp. Please make sure that you have your uniform clothes with you, including your athletic shorts and sleeveless compression-style shirts on the first day of camp. Also, students who have their marching band shoes at home from the Ireland trip should bring them with you on Monday as well.

Parents - we are looking for some help to get our students fitted in their uniforms. We need people on Monday between noon and 6:30. If you are able and willing to help us out, please click the link below and sign up. We’ll teach you everything you need to know when you arrive. Thanks in advance for your help!

Band Camp Volunteers Needed

Things are starting to heat up, figuratively and literally, and Band Camp is right around the corner.  During Band Camp we ask for parent volunteers to make sure everyone stays hydrated, help with minor first aid, pass out snacks, remind students to put on sunscreen, and generally be available if the directors need help with anything. This is a great opportunity to see the behind the scenes work going on for the marching show and to get to know other band parents. Please sign-up for a shift by clicking on the link below.
